Asplund worked with their product and price lists in InDesign. Every time an update was due, extensive manual changes were required throughout the document. The process was time-consuming, lacked automation and made it difficult to quickly manage new products.
All products needed to be managed with different attributes - color, dimensions and materials - and these needed to be easy to update. At the same time, the catalog needed to be printable, in whole or in part, and controlled via a simple menu. The desire was to move to Excel, and there we saw an opportunity to build a more flexible and functional solution.
We developed a solution in Excel using VBA programming. The model was built with userforms that make it easy to input products, adjust prices and select print options. An intuitive menu tab guides the user, allowing even those with limited experience of Excel to work smoothly. In addition, the catalog can be exported in whole or in part as a PDF, with pages generated automatically from a template page using formulas.
The result was an interactive furniture catalog in Excel where all the work can be done in a single file. The solution saves time, makes updates easy and gives users confidence that everything works - without advanced knowledge. A smart and flexible tool that makes the product and price list both more efficient and more accessible.
